BE, Kolkata :: India’s Olympian archer Dola Banerjee was speaking at the recently concluded Annual Day function of Jyotirmoy Public School, which was incepted in 2004, has urged parents to allow their children to choose their own vocations and career paths during their formative years in school.
“Practice makes man perfect,” remarked Dola Banerjee as she praised Jyotirmoy Public School for the way it has successfully balanced academic pursuits and extracurricular activities. In her speech, she also emphasized the significance of including sports in the curriculum for the holistic development of students while at the same time encouraged them to pursue their passions, whether in athletics, dance, and arts, or in any other sphere of their interest.
Presiding over the occasion, Dr. Partha Sarathi Ganguli, President of the Managing Committee of Jyotirmoy Public School and Founder Trustee & President of the Jyotirmoy Education and Welfare Foundation (JEWF), reflected on the journey and future roadmap of the institution. Emphasizing the importance of accessible education in building a progressive society, Dr. Ganguli stated, “A democratic setup thrives when individuals are educated to understand what is good for them.”
In keeping with his mission of reaching meaningful education in English to disadvantaged children in the remote areas of West Bengal, Dr. Ganguli said work was already under way to open a new school in North Bengal, in the Oodlabari region of the Targhera forest. “Education cannot be taught; it must be learned. Teachers guide the process, but learning is shaped by students’ unique perspectives and experiences,” he added.
A highlight of the day was the Class 10 Academic Excellence Award, where the school awarded scholarships of ₹1 lakh each to high-achieving students. This initiative underlines the school’s dedication to recognizing and fostering academic brilliance. The program featured a vibrant showcasing of cultural performances celebrating Kolkata’s evolution through the theme “From Roots to Wings” with captivating performances: Dance Drama: “Kolkata: Adda, Mishti, and Beyond”; Skit: “The Cradle of Renaissance”; Recitation: “Kolkata: The Intellectual Capital”; Flash Mob: “The City of Joy”; Instrumental Performances and Dance Sequences, tracing the city’s rich cultural heritage.
